Louis Bhose has directed a number of videos for Bruno Major, latterly in collaboration with Apple Music. And now he's signing off this impressive campaign with a real corker.
Shot while Major was touring in the US, Bhose's concept is excellent, but could have easily been smudged in the execution. Instead, he pulls it off brilliantly.
To highlight the poignancy of a song called Home, Bhose and his DoP Murren Tullett (who's also worked on all the videos) filmed the end of Major's shows in various East Coast venues, match-cutting between them, following the singer-songwriter's progress from different aftershows to different streets to a different hotel every night.
The director blurs the line between documentary and something more staged, but that's perfect to capture the heartfelt emotion in the song.
From the director
"The last vid in collaboration with Bruno Major and Apple Music, we shot this one in-between shows on the East Coast leg of Bruno's US tour. Rather than a concept that was inspired by the song, I wanted to try and make a vid where we watch the inception of a song... Where we see Bruno's state of mind and an identical post-show routine that will eventually lead to the creation of the song we are listening to.
"A big thank you to the long-suffering Murren Tullett for, among many things, trying to change a tyre on the side of the New Jersey Turnpike. And a big ha-ha to me two months ago, for thinking it would be a relative doddle to match-cut an entire video of doc-style footage."
