French director Colin Solal Cardo, director of acclaimed videos for Phoenix, Metronomy and Alicia Keys, and winner of the inaugural Best Live Session award at the 2017 UKMVAs for his work for Mura Masa and Damon Albarn, has now signed to FRIEND in London, for representation for music videos and commercials in the UK.
Solal Cardo has established his reputation in France making creative music videos for La Blogotheque's Take Away Show series of filmed live performances - often captured in one take, such as Nicolas Godin's Bach Off, shot at Paris's Orly Airport. He has also directed non-live music videos for Benjamin Clementine, and Kylie Minogue's recent video for Stop Me From Falling.
His talent in the burgeoning field of live music video was recognised at last year's UK Music Video Awards, when he won the ceremony's first 'live music video' award, for Mura Masa ft Damon Albarn's Blu (Live), accepting the award at the ceremony (above: Solal Cardo, right with trophy, with La Blogotheque executive producer Christophe Abric).
"We’re really excited to start working with Colin who we’ve been long time fans of," says Luke Tierney, FRIEND's executive producer for music videos. "Finally our paths are crossing officially! He’s got great taste musically and the talent as a director to back it up so feels like a match made in heaven for us. Phoenix, Nicolas Godin, Metronomy, Mura Masa, Damon Albarn, Alicia Keys, Kylie and Jack White is a playlist anyone can get down to!”
